Newcastle United have been in talks with Porto over a summer deal for striker Samu Aghehowa, according to Spanish outlet Diario AS. Newcastle are preparing for life without Alexander Isak at the St James’ Park club and are now prepared to sell him for €150 million. The Magpies have always wanted another striker regardless of what happens with Isak, and the 6ft 4in Aghehowa has been on their radar for a while. The Spain international ended last term with 27 goals across all competitions and Porto want €80m for him.
Newcastle have been in talks with them over a deal for the 21-year-old, and the Portuguese top-flight club want to benefit from the potential sale of Isak. Aghehowa joined Porto for €15m from Atletico Madrid last summer, signing a five-year deal, which contains a €100m release clause. The chance to move to the Premier League could appeal to the Spaniard, and the Magpies playing in the Champions League could be a boost for them. Aghehowa has already hit the ground running in 2025-26, bagging a brace in his first game of the new campaign, and Newcastle could do with such a quality number 9.
However, a move appears to be dependent on Isak joining Liverpool, and all the parties involved will wait to see the domino effect of the Swede’s departure.
The Toons could look to sign another striker even after completing a deal for Aghehowa, but they have less than three weeks to complete any move and time is not on their side.
