‘Train and play!’ - Roy Keane rips into Alexander Isak for ‘shocking’ Liverpool transfer saga

Alexander Isak remains in limbo at Newcastle United after downing tools to force a move to Liverpool.

Roy Keane believes Alexander Isak is out of order for how he has handled his Newcastle United transfer saga.

It is no secret that the Swede wants to leave St James’ Park this summer. Isak has not kicked a ball in pre-season and is training alone after making his intentions clear to join Liverpool.

The Reds have already seen one offer worth around £110million turned down for the striker. Any potential move was dealt a blow last week when Manchester United beat Newcastle in the race to sign Benjamin Sesko.

Newcastle United need striker replacement

NewcastleWorld understands Isak’s exit hinges on the Magpies buying a suitable replacement ahead of a Champions League campaign. However, with the window approaching its climax, alternatives are becoming few and far between.

Roy Keane slams Alexander Isak

Speaking on The Overlap, Manchester United legend Keane cannot understand why Isak has downed tools on Tyneside. He said: “You still train and play. I just think if you're a footballer and there's stuff going on, I'm always wary when people say, ‘You were promised something’. They're already on deals. If you want to talk about loyalty or whatever, get yourself a dog.

“If you're a footballer, you might be disappointed with the club, you might be leaving, I had it with (Nottingham) Forest, but you still want to train and play. The benefits of me training and playing is, if I stay here, or if I go, I'd be ready. Instead of going, ‘I'm downing tools, I'm going to go out and train with somebody else for a few weeks’.

“This would be different if Newcastle finished near the bottom and there was disarray. They just had a brilliant season, they’re in the Champions League. You can’t be angry with agents. Your job is to train and play.”

Arsenal legend sends strong message

Ian Wright went as far as to suggest Isak’s conduct has been “shocking” and unfair to his current club. He added: “It doesn't look good. And you have to say, there's a lot of talk about what was promised to him, maybe from (Amanda) Staveley. I don't know what's going on.

“It’s terrible. The behaviour (from Isak) is shocking. I don't know what's happened with his agent. I don't know if his agent has done the job properly. If Liverpool are going to get him, go and pay the £150million.

“From Newcastle's point of view, they've got every right to do what they're doing. They should sell him but they sell him for the money you want for him.”
