United want Bayern star in late transfer push

Manchester United have set their sights on Bayern Munich star Dayot Upamecano as the summer window nears its final days.

United planning a move for Bayern star

Manchester Utd are making an effort to reinforce their defence in this transfer window. As per journalist Steve Kay, Dayot Upamecano has been added to United’s wishlist.

The Frenchman was a vital signing for Bayern Munich in 2021 from RB Leipzig. Now, he is down to just one year remaining on his contract. Munich will be in a tricky situation if they do not sell the Frenchman now. They will risk losing him for free next year.

The defender was key at the back for Vincent Kompany in the 2024/25 season. Although, he sustained an injury in March. Most recently, he returned to play in the Club World Cup. He started all five matches in the tournament for the German side.

Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim is under a tight clock. The club has put the center-back reinforcements at top on the list of things to do. The Red Devils have already invested heavily in attack with the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. But the need for a reliable defender has become increasingly clear after last season’s defensive struggles.

Experience needed at Old Trafford

Upamecano has history to back his reputation. He has the ability to show that he can back up his claims.

His combination of physicality, pace and calmness on the ball would give maturity to United’s relatively inexperienced back line. He is earning a reported £180k-a-week at Bayern at the moment. He would also bring a winning mentality to a squad hungry for silverware.

With time ticking, fans are watching closely. They will be eager to see if the Red Devils can pull off a top defensive move before deadline the day.
