Chelsea Legend John Terry Issues His Premier League Title Verdict Ahead Of The New Season

Ex-Chelsea captain John Terry thinks his former team must head into the new campaign “with the mindset” that they are going to win the Premier League title.

Speaking to The Sun, Terry said that he understands why head coach Enzo Maresca played down the Blues’ chances last season but the players need to hold the mentality that they can go all the way this time around.

“We’ve got to go into it 100 per cent with the mindset of going, ‘Yes, we have to try to win the league this year’. Without a shadow of a doubt. But there’s other big competitions as well.”

“You fight right to the end until it’s not possible. The Premier League was done last season, Liverpool were very good last year and rightly the winners. We have to compete for that again.”

What are the odds of Chelsea winning the title this year?

Nearly every bookmaker has Maresca’s men as fourth favourites to finish top of the table, behind reigning champions Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City.

The Blues are being priced between 7/1 and 8/1, making them outsiders for the title. However, if they do start the season strongly, those odds will shorten quickly.

Who will Chelsea face in their first 10 fixtures?

You do usually get a gauge from the first ten games about where a team will finish. Chelsea take on Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge in their opening Premier League fixture on Sunday.

They will then face West Ham (a) and Fulham (h) prior to the first international break. In late September, Maresca’s team take on Brentford (a), Manchester United (a) and Brighton (h).

At the beginning at October, they host Liverpool before playing Nottingham Forest (a), newly-promoted Sunderland (h) and Tottenham (a). All in all, it is by no means the worst list of fixtures, and if they in contention for 1st at the start of November, fans should start to get excited.
