Report: Man Utd player Bruno Fernandes said has 'big qualities' now in advanced talks over loan exit

Manchester United’s summer transfer window has been widely considered successful so far, however, now exits are on the mind.

Despite pre-summer worries that Manchester United had nothing to spend, we are now roughly £200m down the line, with a brand new attack.

However, with United wanting to sign Carlos Baleba in midfield there needs to be departures from the club to fund this and open space in the squad, with no European football.

United could yet raise significant funds this summer, with several big names expected to leave. This includes Alejandro Garnacho who is wanted by Chelsea, while there remains a chance that United will find a buyer for Antony, with Real Betis still trying to bring the Brazilian back.

Jadon Sancho is going to be tough to shift on, however, Rasmus Hojlund has opened the door to an AC Milan move this summer with a loan and option to buy thought to be on the table for the Red Devils.

While these big names have taken the headlines, there remains younger first team players who are expected to be going on loan.

Toby Collyer set to join West Brom on loan

Harry Amass has a loan offer from PSV this summer, along with quite a few Championship clubs, but he isn’t the only youngster attracting interest from England’s second division.

Toby Collyer made 10 appearances for United under Ruben Amorim last season, yet he is expected to head on loan in order to find regular game time.

Collyer was wanted by Sheffield Wednesday, while Hull City were also thought to be very keen, with their manager Sergej Jakirovic raving to Hull Live about the midfielder’s potential.

However, now Collyer has made his decision, with Laurie Whitwell reporting that West Brom are now in advanced talks to sign the 21-year-old

Collyer opted for West Brom, where he will be coached by former Tottenham coach Ryan Mason in a team expected to be at the top end of the table.

Mason believes Collyer can aid in the Baggies’ push for promotion this coming campaign.

Additionally, Rich Fay has claimed that while Hull were confident, West Brom offered a better deal to United, while noting that this leaves the Red Devils very short in midfield.

Manchester United making the right call over Toby Collyer

Last season, Amorim praised Collyer for his running and ability to learn, as quoted by MEN, which suggested that the youngster had earned himself a role in the first team.

“Toby [Collyer] is training really well, he has a lot of pace, he likes to learn so he’s one more option for tomorrow.”

It was around January 2025 that Collyer was lauded by Bruno Fernandes for having ‘big qualities’, amid his prolonged run of playing with the first team.

However, Amorim didn’t continue this and Collyer’s game time dried up at the end of the season, making a loan to a club where he will play every week absolutely vital for his career.

Collyer has been lauded for ‘freakish’ running statistics and physically he is perfect for the Championship. If he impresses, he could return as a ready made midfield option for Amorim or be worth £20m to a club lower in the Premier League.

It’s a win-win for United, and we expect him to fly.
