Rui Hachimura, entering the final year of his contract with the Lakers, has a chance to secure a long-term deal by building on his efficient shooting and improved defense.
Los Angeles Lakers forward Rui Hachimura is entering the final year of his contract and has a chance to secure a long-term deal with the team by delivering another strong season, according to Dan Woike of The Athletic.
While the Lakers are focused on preserving cap space for the summer of 2027, they could still decide that Hachimura is worth the investment.
Since joining L.A., he has shot over 50% from the field and 40% from three-point range in each of his two full seasons, while also showing growth on the defensive end.
Woike believes Hachimura could take another step forward by spending a full season alongside Luka Doncic.
Last season, the 27-year-old Japanese player averaged 13.1 points and 5.0 rebounds over 59 games (57 starts). He even elevated his play in the postseason, putting up 14.8 points and 4.6 rebounds across five playoff games.
Hachimura, who has been with the Lakers since 2023, is set to earn $18,259,259 next season.
