Report: Rangers eyeing move to sign 'exceptionally talented' Premier League star ahead of Celtic

Rangers could look to sign West Ham United star Andy Irving in the coming weeks, according to reports - with the Scottish star having enjoyed a fine pre-season under Graham Potter in the English capital, in which the Glaswegian outfit could look to add him to their ranks ahead of a challenging domestic and European campaign.

The report by The Scotsman states that Scotland international Irving is the subject of 'mounting transfer interest' from Rangers, as well as clubs in Germany and Italy - with the Hammers star preparing to decide his future before the summer transfer window slams shut at the start of September.

Report: Rangers 'Looking' at Deal for Andy Irving

Irving, 25, came through Hearts' youth academy before moving to Germany at the age of 21, only moving back to the UK to join the Hammers in 2023 - and having featured for the east London outfit in 10 Premier League games last season, he's crept onto the shortlist of various clubs after some impressive performances.

Rangers are one of those teams. Irving's strong pre-season means that he is hungry for first-team minutes, with a potential World Cup place with Scotland on the horizon - and that could see the 'exceptionally talented' star move to Ibrox.

Other clubs have contacted West Ham to enquire about his availability, with Serie A teams notably interested after a Tartan Army revolution in Italy, where Scott McTominay, Che Adams, Lewis Ferguson and Billy Gilmour among others currently ply their trade.

Rangers boss Russell Martin intends to further strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes, feeling that Irving could be a worthwhile move. And, whilst he isn't short of options, Irving only has one year left on his deal in the English capital and that may force them into securing a fee for his services.

Martin has added plenty of talent from the English leagues this summer. Joe Rothwell and Max Aarons have moved to Glasgow from Bournemouth, defender Emmanuel Fernandez has made the move from Peterborough United, Thelo Aasgaard has joined from Luton Town despite spending just six months in Bedfordshire and Sheffield Wednesday star Djeidi Gassama has made a lightning-quick star to Scottish life after adding to the Hillsborough exodus.

Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur youngster Mikey Moore and Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Nasser Djiga have both moved on loan - and so Irving could be the eighth player to make the move from south of the border in the summer months to help their Scottish Premiership push.
