Manchester United would allow Harry Amass to join Sheffield Wednesday on loan for regular game time.

Although nothing is finalised, Sheffield Wednesday are thought to be leading the race to sign Amass and it's understood United would be happy to send the youngster to Hillsborough Stadium.

Sheffield Wednesday have been in turmoil over the last few months due to problems with the club's owner, Dejphon Chansiri. The Owls were handed a transfer embargo for their failure to pay players and staff, but the embargo has been lifted and they have pitched to sign Amass on loan for 2025/2026.

Despite the unrest at Sheffield Wednesday, United sources have indicated that game time is the priority when considering a loan offer and Amass would benefit from consistent starts.

Amass is understood to be weighing up his options, but United have no qualms about potentially sending him on loan to Sheffield Wednesday and would green-light a move to S6.

Sheffield Wednesday started the Championship season with only 16 registered first-team players after several departures and supporters have protested against the club's ownership.

Last weekend, Sheffield Wednesday fans walked into their game against Leicester City late to protest against Chansiri, and further protests are planned before facing Stoke on Saturday.

The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters' Trust has encouraged fans not to buy other merchandise or food at the ground, while supporters have boycotted the new home and away kit.

After internal discussions and the arrival of Diego Leon this summer, Amass was earmarked for a loan move. Ruben Amorim handed Amass his first-team debut against Leicester in March and the youngster made a total of seven first-team appearances throughout the campaign.

Amass was named on the bench for the Europa League final against Tottenham. He was subsequently considered to stay with the first-team for the new season, but Leon has impressed in pre-season.

United agreed a £3.3million fee, rising to £7m with add-ons, with Paraguay club Cerro Porteno to sign Leon, who was due to be assessed this summer before a decision was made on his future.

Leon made a strong first impression at Carrington and was handed a first-team squad number before the opening pre-season friendly against Leeds in Stockholm. Amorim started Leon in that friendly and he made substitute appearances against West Ham and Bournemouth in the United States.

Amass was not brought on the USA tour because United planned to send him on loan.
