Everton-linked defender Lyanco has signed a contract extension with Atlético Mineiro, [putting an end to speculation](https://sportwitness.co.uk/everton-make-approach-contact-from-england-for-ex-southampton-centre-back/) over a possible move abroad.
[Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte](https://ge.globo.com/futebol/times/atletico-mg/noticia/2025/08/12/atletico-mg-renova-contrato-com-lyanco-ate-2029.ghtml?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter) confirmed the 27-year-old has now committed to the club until December 2029. He was previously tied down until the end of 2028, but the new deal extends his stay after weeks of external interest.
According to the report, Lyanco had received enquiries from Everton, Olympiacos, and Al Duhail. His representatives were approached following a run of strong performances in 2025, during which he has made 33 appearances and scored four goals.
Despite the attention, the former Southampton man made it clear he wanted to remain in Belo Horizonte. The club paid around R$18 million (approximately £2.6m) for 50% of his rights when signing him last year.
Lyanco initially struggled to establish himself after arriving, even filling in as a full-back at times. But under manager Cuca in 2025, he emerged as a key player in Atlético’s defence.
With the new deal now confirmed, the defender looks set to continue his career in Brazil, unless a major offer changes the scenario down the line.
