Nottingham Forest’s deal to send Carlos Miguel back to Brazil is so close to the finish line that even the hard conversations have already happened.
According to [Record Brazil journalist Cosme Rímoli](https://esportes.r7.com/prisma/cosme-rimoli/a-lealdade-de-abel-com-weverton-e-lomba-carlos-miguel-foi-contratado-por-indicacao-dele-para-o-12082025/), Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira has personally spoken to both his goalkeepers Weverton and Marcelo Lomba about the incoming signing.
No sugar-coating: Abel reiterated his trust in the pair but also laid out the club’s renewal plans. Lomba, who turns 39 in December, has been told his contract won’t be renewed, while Weverton will be 38 by the end of the year and will stay as a second-choice.
With Carlos Miguel turning 27 in October, that 11-year age gap is a big factor, especially for a goalkeeper.
The awkward chat was only one of the final steps. The other was the brief stand-off over agents’ commissions, now settled after Gilmar Veloz and Giuliano Bertolucci reached an agreement, as we told earlier.
Some in Brazil are already projecting a huge future for him. [Bandeirantes journalist João Paulo Cappellanes](https://www.band.com.br/radio-bandeirantes/noticias/carlos-miguel-sera-titular-do-brasil-na-copa-2026-diz-cappellanes-202508122039) went as far as to say: _“Carlos Miguel will be Brazil’s starter at the 2026 World Cup. This guy is a beast, a miracle worker. Something Liverpool’s Alisson, unfortunately, has never been for the national team.”_
He praised the goalkeeper’s imposing frame – _“over two metres tall, huge wingspan”_ – and his leadership, penalty-saving ability and command of the box. He added that the signing was also a direct request from Palmeiras president Leila Pereira.
Record’s story also explains that Carlos Miguel had been expected to undergo medicals tomorrow, but he’s still tying up loose ends in England, including handing back the house he’s been living in. Once that’s sorted, the deal can finally be wrapped up.
