Jack Grealish’s transfer to Everton has been the talking point of the Premier League this week.

Everton have spent the last few seasons contending with a relegation fight, and to see the level of ambition shown this summer is a breath of fresh air.

The Toffees have recruited smartly, and the latest addition of Grealish is just the cherry on top of what looks to be a very successful summer window.

Given his name and pedigree, it’s normal to expect his move to Merseyside to be talked about, but a suggestion made by Jamie Carragher is wide of the mark.

Everton have several stars in the squad

Iliman Ndiaye, Thierno Barry, Carlos Alcaraz and several others are just a few of the names that can change a game in an instant for Everton.

Grealish certainly adds to that, but the latest suggestion from Carragher still seems a bit over the top after his arrival on Merseyside.

Via The Overlap, he said: “When you think about it, he’s getting the ball at Man City and even though he’s in the team, there are still probably four other players who you’d think ‘No Jack, Pass it to him.

Grealish has made 190 Premier League appearances

He has 16 goal contributions from just 26 league outings for Aston Villa in 2020/21

He started only seven league games for Manchester City last season

“At Aston Villa, it was like ‘no, give Jack the ball’, and when he goes to Everton, get Jack Grealish the ball, that new stadium looks fantastic.

“All the supporters will be going there to watch Jack Grealish.”

Of course, Grealish will see plenty of the ball at Everton, but Carragher’s comments suggest that he is the only player who is going to cause a threat this season.

Not only has he struggled for gametime over the last few years, but his game has changed since his Villa days, and to expect the same level from him at the get-go would be unreasonable.

More than that, though, the suggestion that every fan will be attending the brand-new ground for Grealish alone is a bit overboard.

Everton still need more after Grealish

Under David Moyes, Everton have every chance of achieving something special this season, though they will need a few more marquee additions.

Depending on the severity of Jarrad Branthwaite’s injury, another centre-back will be needed, though Moyes will be well aware of what is left to do this summer.
