Journalist now says Newcastle United have 'reservations' about Alexander Isak alternative

· 14 August 2025, 13:30

**Newcastle United are facing up to the prospect of losing Alexander Isak this summer, but before the Magpies will let him leave, they have to find a replacement.**

As much as Alexander Isak's actions have made it very unlikely he will play for the club again, Newcastle would still be crazy to sanction his departure without securing another player to take his place.

If Isak remains at the club, there will come a point where he will return to the lineup, as it would be far too detrimental to his career not to, so keeping him on Tyneside and not playing isn't the same as not replacing him at all.

However, finding a player who could fill the void that Isak will leave is proving to be tricky. Joao Pedro, Benjamin Sesko and Hugo Ekitike have all moved elsewhere, and while there are other options available, none have really convinced fans yet.

Newcastle are cooling their interest in Nicolas Jackson

-------------------------------------------------------

One player Newcastle were heavily linked with was Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson. The 24-year-old has been very hit and miss at Chelsea since his £32 million arrival, but that hasn't stopped the Blues sticking an enormous £80 million price tag on him.

Although reports have suggested that £60 million could be enough to get a deal done. However, now Luke Edwards has posted on X that it seems an unlikely move.

> "Newcastle have reservations about making a move for Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson. Not seen as the same calibre of striker as Alexander Isak for a start #nufc"

Nobody we get is going to be of the same calibre as Alexander Isak

------------------------------------------------------------------

It's surely not news to anyone that Jackson is not the same calibre as Isak. Surely, nobody we've looked at this summer is; otherwise, Liverpool would have been focusing on them rather than Isak.

The fact is, whoever we get in isn't going to be able to fill the void left by the lanky Swede, at least not at first. Jackson is a player we've had our reservations about since the rumours started, but Eddie Howe has seemed very keen and obviously sees something in him we haven't.

If Edwards is right and Newcastle are cooling their interest, then fair enough, but if Jackson does arrive on Tyneside, which reports suggest he is open to, then we back Eddie Howe to get him firing and perhaps unlocking that potential Chelsea saw in him two years ago.
