Manchester United will be eyeing a winning start to the 2025/26 Premier League campaign when they face Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds, who have not beaten the Gunners in the league for almost three years, will be hoping to build on the positive atmosphere and environment that has been created on the back of a successful pre-season campaign on and off the pitch.

United went unbeaten in pre-season for the first time since 2019 and brought in four new signings.

Ahead of the visit of Mikel Arteta's side, United's players and staff are continuing to put the hard yards in at Carrington, and here are five things we spotted from Wednesday's training session:

Feeling the heat

The weather has been glorious in Manchester this week, meaning Ruben Amorim's players have been gearing up for Sunday's curtain-raiser in sweltering conditions.

The sun has been beaming down on the club's training ground, meaning United's players have been pushed to the maximum. The weather forecast for Sunday says temperatures could reach as high as 26 degrees Celsius.

Pictures captured from Wednesday's training session at Carrington showed several members of the squad training in sleeveless vests. Among those donning a top of that type included Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.

Unfortunately, it will not be all that long before United's players are reaching for their hats, gloves and snoods for training.

Hojlund features

On Monday, United published images that had been captured from Sunday's post-Fiorentina training session. The day after a game is a recovery day for the starters, while those who start on the bench train as usual, whether they come on or not.

Every substitute from the 1-1 draw with Fiorentina was accounted for except for striker Rasmus Hojlund. It felt somewhat significant amid United's efforts to offload him to AC Milan.

However, he was pictured training alongside the rest of his teammates on Wednesday, meaning he remains in contention to be included in the squad for Sunday's game.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News earlier this week, he is open to joining AC Milan. United are confident a deal can be struck with the Italian outfit.

Youngsters feature

It wouldn't be a United training session without a youngster or two involved. It has become a regular theme at Carrington in recent years, and Amorim has not shied away from giving some of United's most promising talent a chance to catch the eye.

After going on the pre-season tour of the United States, both Tyler Fredricson and Jack Fletcher are continuing to train with United's senior figures. It was confirmed on Wednesday the latter was working with the first-team squad.

Fredricson, 20, was given his senior debut by Amorim towards the end of last season, starting United's Premier League defeats to Wolves and Brentford. Fletcher is still waiting to make his competitive bow for the club, but was named on the bench seven times last term.

Mazraoui missing again

With just three days to go until the opening game of the season, it is looking increasingly likely Noussair Mazraoui will miss out. Just as he was on Sunday, the Moroccan was absent from the pictures published from Wednesday's session.

The defender has been missing since United's 0-0 draw with Leeds United in Stockholm almost a month ago, failing to play a single minute of their tour of the United States. He is currently nursing an injury and the last image published of him by United in training was on July 25.

The Moroccan was a key player for the Reds last season, racking up 57 appearances in all competitions.

An upbeat mood

The start of a new season always brings fresh optimism and hope. After a successful summer both on and off the pitch, United's players have every right to be in an upbeat mood ahead of the clash with Arsenal.

The pre-season tour of the US captured just how positive the mood is within the camp, and that appears to have continued since returning to England just over a week ago.
