Blow as 27yo Man Utd star who played 57x last season unavailable for Arsenal game - Insider

Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui is expected to miss the Premier League opener against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday, according to United insider Sully.

The 27-year-old played against Leeds United in pre-season on July 19, starting the match in Sweden, but the Red Devils announced that he missed out on the game against West Ham United afterwards due to a knock.

Mazraoui did not feature in any of the games Man United played in the United States and is all but out of the Arsenal game.

The Morocco international is doing strength and rehabilitation work at Carrington, with the Old Trafford club insisting he has only suffered a minor injury.

The former Bayern Munich star was a regular for Man United last term, making 57 appearances across all competitions and only missing one Premier League game.

However, he is unlikely to be available against the Gunners having not featured since the Leeds game, but head coach Ruben Amorim has other options to call on.

Mazraoui has featured in all the positions in the back-three, as a left wing-back and at right wing-back, and Man United are not short of options in those positions right now.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana and forward Joshua Zirkzee were also unable to feature at all on tour but are both back in first-team training and it is unknown whether they will be available to face the North London club.

Man United are desperate to start 2025-26 on a winning note after an underwhelming Premier League campaign in 2024-25 saw them miss out on European football, and a victory against the Gunners will be a huge boost.

Summer signings Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha could start against Arsenal, while Benjamin Sesko is likely to start from the bench having only featured against the Man United under-21s since joining the club.
