Rio Ferdinand shares transfer advice with Rasmus Hojlund, after AC Milan present opportunity for 'fresh start'

Rasmus Hojlund faces an uncertain future at Manchester United.

After scoring just 26 goals across all competitions in his first two seasons at Manchester United, Rasmus Hojlund has been unable to convince Ruben Amorim that he is capable of leading the line in attack.

United completed a transfer for Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig last week, with the 22-year-old expected to become the main man following a costly switch.

Hojlund will inevitably fall in the pecking order, and up until this point, he has been willing to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford.

That may change if Hojlund feels United are pushing him towards an exit and he already has plenty of interest in Italy following his impressive stint at Atalanta.

United must honour Hojlund’s contract, but the Dane must also think about what is best for his career. The World Cup will be taking place next year and he’ll want to be part of the Denmark squad.

Rio Ferdinand sends advice to Rasmus Hojlund

It won’t be easy for Hojlund to leave United.

The young Dane may be forced to take a pay cut and step down to a smaller club, but he needs to play regular football to prove his critics wrong.

AC Milan have been linked with a move for Hojlund on loan, with reports suggesting the deal would include an option to buy clause of around €47 million (£40m).

In his latest YouTube video, former United defender Rio Ferdinand shares his views on multiple transfer stories.

The former England defender believes United need to cut their losses with Hojlund and move him on.

“The reports are that he’s [Hojlund] talking to Milan about a loan move,” he said on Rio Ferdinand Presents. “They’re covering all of his wages and a loan fee, which will add to [help] United’s financial situation.

“I think Rasmus Hojlund has to go on loan. I think if I was him, I’d definitely want to go out on loan, minimum – fresh start. Italy. He knows the place and did good out there. I think it would be a good move for him.

“What could happen when he comes back? Who knows?”

Rasmus Hojlund could join AC Milan’s striker ranks

If Hojlund does join Milan on loan or in a permanent deal, he will have just one centre-forward to compete with…

Santiago Gimenez is the only recognised centre forward in the Milan squad as things stand.

Gimenez is not the same standard as Sesko, giving Hojlund a chance to earn a regular place in the Milan line-up.

Milan’s other attacking players include Samuel Chukwueze, Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao.
