Boston Celtics have found their new starting point guard

The Boston Celtics will reportedly promote guard and 2025 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Payton Pritchard to the starting lineup next season.

After trading away Jrue Holiday, the Boston Celtics were left without their starting point guard, but their 27-year-old guard is reportedly set to take over the role.

According to Fastbreak Journal, the Celtics plan to elevate backup guard Payton Pritchard into the starting lineup for next season.

In his only three starts last year, he posted an impressive 21.7 points, 7.3 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game—showing he may be ready to become the franchise’s next lead point guard.

Pritchard still has three years remaining on his contract with the Celtics, worth around $23 million. For the 2025-26 season, he is set to earn $7,232,143.
