Nottingham Forest 'close to £26m deal for striker' as James McAtee transfer claim made

Nottingham Forest are reported to be in advanced talks to sign striker Arnaud Kalimuendo from French side Rennes.

The deal for the France under-21 international is said to be worth £26m as Forest seek to address a lack of goals in their side.

It was an issue as their challenge for Champions League football faltered last season and has carried on into the summer. They have played seven friendlies, scoring just once and enduring five goalless draws.

The Telegraph report that there is still work to do before Kalimuendo is a Forest player, but add that the signs are “positive”.

The 23-year-old scored 17 Ligue 1 goals last season for the French side, also bringing him to the attention of Brentford. However, it seems the Reds are in the box seat to complete a deal.

The Telegraph says Forest are hoping to complete the signing of Manchester City midfielder James McAtee in the next few days - but claim no agreement has yet been reached on the fee and payment structure.

They say Forest are attempting to reach a compromise with City over the fee for the England under-21 international. He is valued at around £40m, but Forest are hoping to strike a deal which will require them to pay up to £30m with the promise of further instalments.

The report adds: “The 22-year-old playmaker is ready to pursue a new challenge and has chosen a move to the City Ground despite interest from clubs in the Bundesliga including Borussia Dortmund.

“McAtee is expected to sign a five-year contract at Forest, bringing an association with City to an end that stretches back to 2013.”

Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo is looking to make at least four more additions to his squad before the summer transfer window closes on September 1 to help with next season’s greater workload.

In addition to the Premier League, Forest are back in Europe next season for the first time in 30 years, and Nuno is targeting full-backs, wingers and forwards in the next couple of weeks.

The Telegraph report adds: “Southampton’s Mateus Fernandes remains high on their list, with West Ham also emerging as competitors to sign the Portugal Under-21 international.

“Dilane Bakwa, the Strasbourg winger, is understood to be a definite target, though a deal is not close to agreement.

“Forest have also held talks with AC Milan over a move for United States international Yunus Musah, who is keen to join the Midlands club.”

Forest kick-off the new Premier League season with a home game against Brentford on Sunday (2pm kick-off).
