Newcastle United announce Carabao Cup art exhibit in Gateshead

Newcastle United is set to relive the club’s Carabao Cup journey through a new art installation hosted at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art this August.

Hosted at the Baltic on the south bank of the Tyne, the exhibition will offer a rare behind-the-scenes look at the Magpies’ historic 2024/25 season.

The exhibition will run from Friday, August 22 until Monday, August 25 and will give fans a chance to get up close and personal with the Carabao Cup trophy, the club’s first piece of major silverware in seven decades.

Including over 100 documentary-style photographs, the exhibiton will take fans on a behind the scenes look from the opening rounds of the competition through to the city centre parade which saw an estimated 300,000 people pack the streets of Newcastle.

Named The Road to Wembley, the exhibition was commissioned by Newcastle United and produced in collaboration with acclaimed local artists Jimmy Turrell and Ewen Spencer, both known for blending football, music and street culture in their work. They are joined by typographer Will Knight, whose creative input helps bring the exhibition to life through striking design.

In total, over 200 hours were spent developing the exhibition, drawing on unseen moments and emotional high points to celebrate not just a sporting achievement, but a powerful expression of local pride.

Looking beyond the North East, the project also travelled overseas. The first international stop was Seoul, where South Korean artist Joonho Ko interpreted the exhibition using the Magpie - both South Korea’s national bird and a symbol of Newcastle United - as inspiration.

Dan Ginger, Newcastle United’s Director of Brand, Marketing and Digital Media, said: “Our Carabao Cup win ignited a sense of unity and pride across the city and beyond. This exhibition is a way to honour that moment and connect with people in a creative, meaningful way that goes far beyond the game itself.”

Tickets will be required for this free-to-attend event to manage capacity. These are now available to book via www.baltic.art.

The event will be open from 10am until 6pm each day, with final ticket blocks entering from 5pm.
