Eagles' memorable training camp comeback story is getting hard to ignore

After a rough start to training camp, Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Johnny Wilson appears to be catching fire at the right time.

Bleeding Green Nation's Brandon Lee Gowton chronicled the great day of practice Wilson had during Wednesday's joint practice with the Cleveland Browns. Wilson had two highlight plays that caught everyone's attention.

"Wilson continues to make plays after a rough start to camp. The second-year wide receiver was responsible for two noteworthy grabs on Tuesday:

1. Wilson made a leaping catch along the left sideline against backup safety Damontae Kazee in 7-on-7s on a pass from Tanner McKee. Good job of using his 6’6” frame to beat the 5’11” defender.

2. Wilson made another contested catch along the left sideline on a throw from Hurts to beat Cameron Mitchell (as previously mentioned).

Wilson using his size to his advantage is encouraging after seeing him struggle to do so earlier in camp."

Wilson might be more than just a lock for the Eagles' 53-man roster

There was some concern over Wilson at the beginning of training camp, with issues with dropping the ball. He showed off the potential everyone has been waiting for in the Eagles' 34-27 win over the Cincinnati Bengals last week, with three receptions for 73 yards. All three catches were special in their own way, with two of them being contested jump balls and one being a beautiful back shoulder reception.

Wilson did not slow down from his performance in that game during training camp this week as he continues to make good plays. It's becoming clear that he has momentum and starting to pick up on his confidence.

Last year's struggles have been discussed, with Wilson catching only five of his 15 targets and never earning the trust of the offensive staff to play more. His 6-foot-6 height makes him a great pass-catching presence in the red zone, as the Eagles want him to flourish and succeed.

It all comes down to whether Wilson can be consistent, as he's got stiff competition for playing time with Ainias Smith and Darius Cooper also fighting for roster spots. Despite injuries, Terrace Marshall Jr. and Elijah Cooks are also in that conversation.

Wilson has no room to make mistakes, as he must maintain his great play. Whether he can continue to do so against the Browns in Week 2 is the biggest question of all.
