Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris has been discussing the fitness of his players ahead of this weekend's game against West Ham

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris kept his cards close to his chest regarding his team selection ahead of the Premier League opener against West Ham United.

However, the Black Cats boss did reveal he'd make a late decision on the latest trio of new signings - Marc Guiu, Arthur Masuaku and Omar Alderete.

The new arrivals have not yet featured for the Wearsiders since arriving from their respective clubs, though have trained with the first-team this week.

Le Bris said at his pre-match press conference: "The final decision will be late. They came this week so we will have to see if they are ready. To start or just the final part of the game? We’ll see tomorrow.

"I think with Marc, Arthur and Omar we are going to have the opportunity to select them. I think it might be a little bit tough to start because of their fitness levels and because they have not had much time with their team mates.

"So it might be a little bit early for them to start but that is a decision we will make on Friday morning."

Alderete is the latest of those new arrivals, joining on a £10.5 million deal plus add-ons from Getafe, bolstering Sunderland's options in the heart of defence.

However, the Paraguayan has not featured much in pre-season for the La Liga outfit due to a knee injury,

"With Omar, he has had two 45s I think," Le Bris continued. "There was also a small issue with his knee but that is now totally healed.

"He had about ten days where he was not in full training. I think he is probably not really ready to start a game. I think if we really needed him he could, because he is a warrior."

Romaine Mundle is one player who will definitely miss the clash with the Hammers this week, having undergone surgery on a hamstrgin problen picked up in pre-season."The timeframe was about two-and-half or three months, so I think he will hopefully be back sometime in October," Le Bris revealed when asked about the winger's return.
