West Ham United may still hope to strengthen in attacking areas this summer
Improving in forward areas has been a frequent target for West Ham United in recent transfer windows, but it has been made more crucial than ever this summer after last season’s disappointing campaign.
When you consider the fact that West Ham had been trying to bring in players to take the goal-scoring burden off Antonio and Bowen for some time - Niclas Fullkrug the latest attempt last summer with previous signings including Gianluca Scamacca and Danny Ings - this year the necessity became greater than ever. Callum Wilson has arrived on a free transfer but another forward signing may yet be brought in by Graham Potter.
West Ham target Fenerbahce striker Youssef En-Nesyri
According to reports by Fichajes relayed by Football Talk, West Ham are ‘tracking’ Fenerbahce and Morocco striker Youssef En-Nesyri as they seek a prolific new striker in this summer transfer window.
En-Nesyri joined the Turkish giants just last summer after five stand-out years with Sevilla in La Liga and the 28-year-old hit the highest goal-scoring numbers of his career so far last term, with 30 goals in all competitions for his new club including 20 in 34 league outings.
This goal-scoring record has attracted the attention of the Irons, though they may need to pay €40 million (£34m) for his services amidst reports that Fenerbahce are set to remain firm on their valuation at this late stage in the window. This is not the first time West Ham have been interested in the player, as they previously saw a £17m move rejected in January 2023, believed to be around the same fee Fenerbahce paid when they broke the Turkish Super Lig transfer record to sign the Moroccan last summer.
Youssef En-Nesyri once tore Man United apart
While he has not played in the Premier League as of yet, En-Nesyri was a thorn in Manchester United’s side in a 3-0 Europa League quarter-final victory for Sevilla in 2023 which dumped the Red Devils out of the competition. En-Nesyri scored twice to send his side through 5-2 on aggregate and sink Man United dreams, something he will hope to be able to do once again if he were to join the Hammers.
En-Nesyri said after the match: "The truth is I'm very happy for the two goals, and because of the fans - I've never seen an atmosphere like this in my life. That's how it should always be. I want to thank my team-mates, the staff. If we go together, we will go far."
It is believed that the 28-year-old could adapt well to life in the Premier League, something West Ham will need him to do quickly if they are to shell out such a large fee for his signature. It could be a competitive season and Hammers fans will hope to make a quick start in front of goal if they are to target a rise up the table.
