‘Here we go!’ - Fabrizio Romano confirms another Newcastle United summer transfer

Newcastle United are set to sign Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey for £40million.

Jacob Ramsey is heading to Tyneside ahead of a £40million move to Newcastle United.

It has been a busy week at St James’ Park, with Malick Thiaw arriving from AC Milan on Tuesday. Eddie Howe has endured a frustrating summer as Newcastle manager - missing out on several top targets - but activity is beginning to shape up nicely.

Yoane Wissa latest

Toon chiefs are also confident in landing Brentford striker Yoane Wissa, although a breakthrough before the Premier League opener becomes increasingly unlikely. A transfer merry-go-round means the deal, at present, hinges on the Bees signing Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth.

While the Wissa move stalls, Newcastle fans can take solace in knowing that Ramsey is set to wear black-and-white stripes next season. The Magpies had been light in midfield after selling Sean Longstaff to Leeds United.

Fabrizio Romano confirms NewcastleWorld report

Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed NewcastleWorld’s earlier information that Ramsey is heading to Tyneside for a medical. He posted on social media: “Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle, here we go! Agreement for £40m fee from Aston Villa.

“Ramsey agreed on personal terms and travels for medical at NUFC right now. Ramsey strongly wanted Newcastle and the deal is now done.”

Eddie Howe on Newcastle United window

Howe has remained upbeat throughout Newcastle’s tough summer. When asked last week if the window can be saved, he said: “Yeah, it can. It can. I've said many times in reply to that question. Everyone when the window's shut gives it a rating, that's a 10 and that's a one.

“We didn't sign many players last summer and everyone said it's a disastrous window, PSR is affecting our long-term success and we're going to have one of the best seasons in recent memory.

“So, signing players doesn't guarantee everything. It does, if you get it right, obviously can take your squad forward to a different area. We're in a position, I think, where we haven't recruited for so long. We are very keen to add new stimulus to the group. Change is sometimes a really good thing for the squad.
