The Old Trafford club want a number 6 as head coach Ruben Amorim is convinced he needs one to complete the jigsaw after bolstering his attack in recent weeks.

Baleba wants to join Man United and getting him will be huge as they look to challenge strongly across all domestic competitions this season.

The Red Devils reportedly have a plan B should their move for the Cameroon international fall through this summer, with Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton their preferred alternative.

However, they may not need to go after the England international right now if Baleba moves to the Theatre of Dreams before the end of the summer transfer window.

Man United hold a long-term interest in pairing the two midfielders together going forward, and could now look to launch a move for the Palace star next summer if his Brighton counterpart is snapped up this month.

Baleba is one of the best in his position in the Premier League, but the scary thing is he is not even close to his prime years yet, and Man United could have a real gem on their hands if they sign him.
