Josh Giddey gets damning $10 million contract update as Bulls’ Marc Eversley, Florida Gators icon Billy Donovan scoff…

Billy Donovan’s tenure with the Chicago Bulls has yielded little success thus far since his hiring in 2020. With the team in purgatory, having a winning percentage ranging from 43% to 56% every year since the Florida Gators coaching legend arrived, the Bulls’ brain trust is drawing a line in the sand with one of their top players.

Why the franchise extended Donovan this offseason, as well as the front office that he’s been teaming with to build a perennial late-lottery finisher, is anyone’s guess.

Instead of caving into Josh Giddey’s contract demands for a $30 million annual salary, Marc Eversley, Donovan, and the rest of the team’s decision-makers are dug in at a $20 million AAV.

“League sources say that the Bulls made an offer of $80 million over four years to restricted free agent Josh Giddey when the offseason commenced on June 30,” NBA insider Jake Fischer said. “Giddey, of course, is seeking an annual salary in the $30 million range. Chicago has been anchored in the $20 million range in annual value ever since its original offer.”

Chicago could soon be looking at sign-and-trade scenarios for Giddey if a new contract isn’t agreed on.

“Sources say Giddey has managed to attract some external interest from rival teams since free agency began, with multiple Eastern Conference teams contacting Giddey's representation to register sign-and-trade interest,” Fischer said.

Giddey’s production with the Bulls declined throughout the 2024-25 season to the point where it fit in with his Oklahoma City Thunder stats. Giddey being swapped out for Alex Caruso was ridiculed last offseason, and the trade looks worse after OKC’s NBA Championship.

There’s no shame in Chicago’s front office taking the loss and letting Giddey walk if he won’t come down on his asking price.
