Former New England Patriots offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste has a new team. But here’s the key question: Can he finally stay healthy?
On Thursday, the Miami Dolphins announced that they had signed the 2019 third-round pick to their 90-man roster. This marks Cajuste’s fourth NFL team.
The 6-foot-5, 310-pounds Cajuste arrived in the NFL with strong potential as an offensive tackle. However, injuries have derailed his career.
Since arriving in the NFL in 2019, Cajuste has had a rocky road of injuries, starting with a knee injury from college that cost him his rookie season.
Cajuste has only had one season where he was not placed on the NFL list or injured reserve. Here’s a full year-by-year recap:
2019: Missed the season on NFI list
2020: Placed on IR in September with a knee injury
2021: Started two games with the Patriots, managed to stay healthy.
2022: Had a stint in IR after a thumb injury
2023: Placed on IR during camp and released by New York Jets
2024: Placed on IR during camp and released by New York Giants
Cajuste has appeared in 17 games during his NFL career, all in New England. There were stints where the Patriots had hoped he would develop into a viable option at tackle. However, things never quite panned out.
The Patriots held out hope for a while, even retaining Cajuste as a restricted free agent in March 2023. However, he was cut two months later in May.
