Atletico Madrid have opened talks to sign Leeds United target Nico Gonzalez from Juventus, it has been claimed. Daniel Farke is desperate to bring in some more attackers players before the end of the transfer window and the Whites continue to be linked with a move for Gonzalez.
The 27-year-old completed a permanent move to Juventus earlier this summer after spending last season on loan from Fiorentina. Gonzalez, who scored five times and provided four assists in 38 appearances during the 2024/25 campaign, had a £21.5million obligation in his contract.
But with Juventus looking elsewhere, Gonzalez could be set for an immediate exit from the Turin club. Leeds have expressed an interest in signing the Argentina international, while Atletico are among the others keen.
Indeed, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Diego Simeone's Atletico have started negotiations to sign the former Stuttgart man this summer. Romano reports that a permanent move is on the table.
Should Juventus sell Gonzalez, they are expected to dip into the market for another winger with Manchester United's Jadon Sancho, who is wanted by Roma and Inter Milan, among those on their shortlist.
Juventus are expected to demand around £26m for Gonzalez, a fraction more than they paid Fiorentina a couple of months ago. The player is said to be aware of Juve's interest in Sancho and is seeking an exit.
This is not the first time that Leeds have been connected with Gonzalez. Back in 2020, when Marcelo Bielsa was the manager, the Whites wanted to bring free-scoring Gonzalez to the Whites following their Premier League promotion.
He decided against making the move at the time and instead joined Fiorentina in 2021. After an impressive couple of years at the Serie A side, finding the net almost once every three matches, he left Florence last summer.
