Antonio Cordero arrived at Newcastle United on a free transfer this summer.
The 18-year-old starred for Málaga CF last season and it attracted interest from several clubs. The Spanish club also tried to extend his contract, but he finally decided to join the Magpies.
Newcastle had confirmed they plan to send the winger out on loan this season. At the start of this month, he joined KVC Westerlo on a season-long loan deal.
The Spain U19 international has been speaking to [Cope Málaga](https://www.cope.es/emisoras/andalucia/malaga-provincia/malaga/deportes-cope-malaga/noticias/cordero-ultimo-dia-estuve-malaga-he-pensado-malaga-fuera-me-importaba-20250813_3199105.html) to discuss a few topics, including his decision to join the Belgian club on loan.
Last weekend, the Newcastle owned player made his debut for the Jupiler Pro League side when he came off the bench in their league defeat to KV Mechelen. The attacker said he’s thrilled to have moved to Westerlo on loan.
_“I’m excited to be here, this is a new project for me. You have to give your all and work hard. It’s a learning experience. They play a bit rougher here than in Spain, it’s a tougher, more physical style of football,”_ he said.
Earlier this month, [AS reported](https://sportwitness.co.uk/newcastle-united-transfer-raises-questions-agent-plan-hasnt-been-followed/+) the Magpies had initially planned to send him on loan to a club in the European competition. Instead, they let the player join Westerlo, who aren’t in Europe and far from competing for the title in Belgium.
Although Cope Málaga didn’t point this out, the Spaniard was aware that he was going to spend this season on loan at another club.
_“I’m just following orders. The clubs are in charge, and if they think a loan is best for the first year, I’ll abide by it, respect it, and give it my all,”_ Cordero explained.
Cordero has also revealed his family has joined him in Belgium.
_“My family is always with me, they have always been there for me, they are my unconditional support and they are there at all times, in the good times, but especially in the bad times,”_ he added.
