This Is Anfield understands that the 18-year-old was wanted by numerous top Serie A sides, as well as Premier League clubs.
Leoni only had eyes for Liverpool, though, with the champions set to sign one of the most exciting young defenders in Europe this week.

Henry Jackson has taken a look at Liverpool’s potential starting lineup to face Bournemouth, with Alexis Mac Allister‘s inclusion a key debate:
“The only possible question mark lingering in Slot’s mind is whether to start Mac Allister in place of Jones.
“The Argentine is one of Liverpool’s most important players, when fit, but he only returned from injury late last month.
“It wouldn’t be a shock to see Mac Allister start, but Slot may err on the side of caution, using Jones instead, due to his superior match fitness.
“Some may be tempted to go with the experience to Robertson at left-back, but it is already clear who the first-choice is out of him and Kerkez.”

Liverpool FC: On this day
Back on August 14, 1978, Liverpool played a testimonial match against Celtic for legendary manager Jock Stein, who had led them to European Cup glory in 1967.
More than 62,000 were in attendance at Parkhead as Liverpool won 3-2 thanks to goals from new signings Kenny Dalglish and Alan Kennedy.
Dalglish, who captained Liverpool on the night, had joined the Reds a year earlier and won the European Cup in his first year.
He was welcomed back to Glasgow with open arms and the European Cup, which had been retained by the Reds in May, was proudly paraded on the pitch.
