Danny Murphy says Michael Edwards has done something absolutely ‘tremendous’ at Liverpool now

As well as buying players to improve their ranks, Liverpool have also earned themselves a hefty chunk of change by selling some of their players.

The main exits at the moment have been players such as Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz, who, while they were important players last season, could’ve done better than what they did.

Others, such as Caoimhin Kelleher and Jarell Quansah, have also been sold, which has helped Liverpool generate plenty of money.

And, with there still being a couple of weeks left in the transfer window, there’s still a lot of time for more new faces to be brought in if needed.

However, it isn’t one of Liverpool’s purchases that has blown Danny Murphy away.

Danny Murphy shocked by the fee Liverpool earned from their sale of Luis Diaz

As mentioned, Diaz is one of the biggest-named players that has been sold this summer.

However, he didn’t leave without Michael Edwards driving a hard bargain, which led to Liverpool getting around £65.5million for the transfer of the attacker.

And, it’s this fee that has left Murphy impressed with Edwards, especially since the Colombian only had two years left on his deal with the Reds.

“I think Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes have done a sterling job in that respect [the fees they’ve got for their sales],” he said.

“If you’re good at what you do, then the players you then need to move on or sell on are always going to have good value.

“The money they got for Diaz is tremendous, really, when you think about it, he wouldn’t sign a new deal, he’s a quality player, people want him.

“And that gives you the capability to then do what they’re doing now, so it’s positive, I don’t see any negatives with what’s going on at all.”

Liverpool are masters at selling their players for the maximum amount of money possible

One of the best things about Liverpool over the last few years is how much they’ve managed to sell their players for.

Indeed, Trent Alexander-Arnold is the one who fell through the cracks as he left upon the expiry of his contract, but of all the sales they’ve made over the last few years, only one of them being a dud isn’t too shabby.

This idea of buying low to sell for a profit is the main thing that has kept Liverpool as competitive in the transfer market as they have been over the last few years, with their net spend often being a lot less than their rivals.

And, even though they’ve already sold a large chunk of their first-team squad, players such as Harvey Elliott, Ben Doak, and Kostas Tsimikas are all still around if any more funds need to be raised.

Of course, this sort of player turnover can end up backfiring, but with the way things have panned out at Liverpool thus far, it’s clear that all their signings are meticulously planned out, which is yet another reason why they’re so dominant.
