United Women put in a superb defensive display to record a win away at Barclays Women's Super League 1 side Everton, with Grace Foy scoring the only goal of the game with 10 minutes to go.
The Blades were defensively resolute throughout, meaning 17-year-old Professional Game Academy goalkeeper Izzy Pendlebury had no shots on target to face on her way to a clean sheet.
The Toffees put out a strong line-up which included returning France international Kelly Gago, as well as the likes of new signings Katie Robinson, Maz Pacheco, Rion Ishikawa, Rosa van Gool, Ornella Vignola and Yuka Momiki.
But United never lost their shape and restricted the hosts to half chances only, and while the hosts did have a goal disallowed for offside, United themselves looked threatening breaking in behind the Everton backline.
Lauren Thomas and Abbie Lafayette were withdrawn at the break as they continued to build up their minutes, while Everton introduced the likes of Hayley Ladd, Katja Snoeijs, Martina Fernandez and Kenzie Weir, as well as ex-Blades loanees Ellie Jones and Issy Hobson.
Everton continued to control possession but the United backline never buckled, and when Foy, Tilly Bristow and Alyssa Aherne were introduced with 15 minutes to go, it took just minutes for United to pounce as fellow substitute Eva Butler broke down the right, her low cross slotted home by Foy to win the match.
Blades: Pendlebury, Cowan, Lafayette (Butler 46), Taylor, Andrews (Foy 76), Devlin (Bristow 76), O'Rourke (Aherne 76), Thomas (Trialist 46), Scofield, George, Reavill.
Unused: Watts.
