Ex-Boston Celtics guard linked to Warriors in free agency (report)

Malcolm Brogdon still remains a free agent as the league dives deeper into free agency in August. There haven’t been many murmurs on where Brogdon could end up, but NBA insider Jake Fischer, speaking on a livestream for Bleacher Report, floated out the possibility of the Warriors.

“I still think Malcolm Brogdon is someone to keep an eye on for the Warriors,” Fischer said. “To my understanding, Golden State looked at Brogdon on the trade market back during last season when the Warriors were looking for options for De’Anthony Melton as a trade chip back then before they went and traded for Dennis Schroder. He’s been on their radar for sometime. He’s definitely still on their radar now.”

Brogdon, 32, has been largely out of the public eye for the past two seasons ever since being traded from the Celtics. The veteran guard had a solid year in Boston during the 2022-23 season, winning the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award. But he was traded to the Trail Blazers right before 2023 training camp in the first Jrue Holiday deal.

Since then, Brogdon played for the Trail Blazers in 2023-24 for 39 games. He was again traded last summer, this time to the Wizards, as that’s where he spent the 2024-25 season. Brogdon only played 24 games, averaging 12.7 points and 4.1 assists per game, this past season as the Wizards didn’t have much incentive to play their veterans plenty of minutes in a lost season.

Now, Brogdon is looking for his next NBA home. The Warriors haven’t made any offseason moves this summer due to the Jonathan Kuminga restricted free agency saga. Golden State has been connected to other guys like Al Horford and more, but it hasn’t been able to make any signings while in Kuminga limbo.

While Brogdon hasn’t signed with a team yet, he should provide solid guard depth for any team looking for another piece. Brogdon wanted to be in Boston for a chance to compete when he was initially traded a few years ago. That hasn’t been the case for the past two years, but the veteran has a chance now to find a potential playoff contributor through free agency.
