San Francisco 49ers: Placed Candidate for Swing Tackle Role on IR

The San Francisco 49ers currently have four of the ideal five starting offensive line positions filled in, with a vacancy at left guard and an important backup role remaining. After losing Jaylon Moore to the Kansas City Chiefs, the team will hold a competition for the swing tackle role. For the rest of training camp and the preseason, three players, including a tackle recovering from surgery, will vie for that particular spot.

Andre Dillard underwent ankle surgery during the offseason, resulting in the 49ers placing him on the active/PUP list to open training camp. He did not participate in their first three weeks of camp and their first preseason game. The front office activated Dillard from the PUP list on Monday, and he participated in the next two practice sessions.

According to Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports, the 49ers placed Andre Dillard on injured reserve just three days after activating him from the PUP list. He is expected to miss the entire 2025 season, unless the front office releases him with an injury settlement, which would allow him to sign elsewhere once he’s healthy. Dillard’s injury leaves Austen Pleasants and Spencer Burford as the two leading candidates for the swing tackle role.

#49ers have signed DL William Bradley-King and DL Demone Harris to one-year deals. In order to make room on the roster, the team placed OL Andre Dillard on the Injured Reserve List and waived DL Michael Dwumfour.

Man so many injuries

They didn’t put much emphasis on fixing the OL in the draft.

Do you anticipate them grabbing OT options from other teams at the cutdown? Not usually their move but this a serious problem. Or did nobody see Burford at OT angaist the Broncos. 😳

That’s disappointing

When are the reporters going to start asking serious questions about the competency of the medical & training staff for niners? This is not a coincidence it’s a clear pattern

That is a bummer, really hoped he could get right.
