The Chelsea Football Club squad are being praised by the soccer world following reports they have decided to give a portion of their Club World Cup winnings to the families Diogo Jota and Andre Silva. Jota, a star forward for Liverpool Football Club and the Portugese national team, was killed alongside his brother Andre Silva in car accident in Spain on July 3.

Jota and Silva were killed while driving on the A-52 motorway near the north-west city of Zamora when their Lamborghini came off the road and caught fire. The A-52 is reportedly in poor condition, with The Athletic previously reporting that “investigators were working on a theory that the car had suffered a puncture to one of its rear tires” while passing a truck.

The deaths of Jota and Silva rocked the football world, leading to tributes from all across the globe, from superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah sharing their grief on social media.

Ten days after Jota and Silva’s deaths on July 13, Chelsea beat Paris Saint-Germain by a score of 3-0 in the Club World Cup and have decided to give a portion of their winnings to the Jota and Silva families.

“Chelsea have subsequently allocated a $15.5m (£11.4m) fund to be distributed equally between the players who represented Enzo Maresca’s side during the tournament, with a decision made jointly between club and players that an equal payment will also be made to Jota’s family.”

“The overall value of each portion tallies more than $500k before it’s subjected to currency conversion costs from US dollars into UK pound sterling, alongside relevant employer costs, taxes and social security costs.” [via *The Athletic ]*

That’s one of the classiest things I’ve ever seen in football, genuinely. Chelsea really don’t have to do this at all. Massive respect. https://t.co/cCEAqQXB7R
