Buccaneers trade idea would send Rachaad White to an NFC contender

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have seemingly changed the guard at the running back position, officially handing Bucky Irving the starting job while relegating former third-round pick Rachaad White to a backup role. After Irving's dominant rookie season, the choice likely wasn't that hard to make.

The banged-up White could rot away as the backup in Josh Grizzard's new offense, or Jason Licht could start working the phones in the name of finding a new home for the former Arizona State star. Such a suit may exist over in the great state of Texas.

The Dallas Cowboys have one of the worst running back rooms in the NFL despite making a controversial coaching hire that put ground-and-pound evangelist Brian Schottenheimer. Dallas might be willing to flip a pick over to Tampa Bay to make sure that White is secured, allowing the Bucs to fully dive into the Irving experience.

This Buccaneers-Cowboys trade sends Rachaad White to Dallas

White managed to bring his yards per carry up to 4.3 last season thanks to the Liam Coen effect, but his career numbers are still somewhat disappointing. White's receiving ability is still respectable, however, and that might be what could help him stand out in a crowded Cowboys room.

The Cowboys are currently going with a committee-based approach to their running back room, with Javonte Williams leading the pack. Miles Sanders is guaranteed next to nothing in the pros, and two Dallas rookies in Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah will likely not be able to nail down big roles in 2025.

The Cowboys traded a fourth-round pick for seldom-used wide receiver Jonathan Mingo not too long ago, which could be taken as a sign that Jerry Jones is willing to pay above market value for skill position upgrades. White, still on a rookie deal, has put together much more at the NFL level than Mingo ever has.

White is still good enough to find a home elsewhere in the NFL, and it is incumbent on the Bucs to do their best to get some sort of pick back for him if they are not going to discuss any sort of long-term contract. Dallas might just be willing to take Tampa up on this offer.
