“The Most Glaring Trade Candidate”: NFL Analyst Believes That Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver…

The Green Bay Packers are trying to make changes to the wide receiver room before the 2025 NFL season begins. Wide receiver Romeo Doubs enters the final year of his rookie contract with the team.

With that being said, will Doubs be with the Packers for the entire 2025 NFL season or will he be elsewhere? He has been mentioned in trade rumors ever since the offseason began. Doubs has yet to be traded from Green Bay and it remains to be seen if he will be playing in 2025 with the Packers or elsewhere.

Alex Kay of Bleacherreport.com thinks that there are some wide receivers who could potentially be requesting a trade at some point. Kay thinks that Doubs on the Packers could potentially request a trade if he is one of the odd people out in the wide receiver room on the team. He said,

“With first-rounder Matthew Golden and third-rounder Savion Williams joining a Green Bay Packers receiving corps that has seven competent pass-catchers vying for a limited number of roster spots, something clearly has to give.

The most glaring trade candidate from this group is Romeo Doubs, the fourth-year receiver who is entering the final year of his rookie deal.

The 25-year-old has been a key part of the Green Bay offense since he was taken in the fourth round of the 2022 draft.

Doubs broke out as a potential star following a 59-catch, 674-yard, eight-touchdown sophomore campaign, and he followed that up in 2024 with a solid 46-catch, 601-yard, four-touchdown stat line that would have been more impressive had he not missed four games.

While the Nevada product has held an important but slightly limited role in the Packers’ passing attack, he may not be too happy with the prospects of it being further diminished in 2025. It wouldn’t be the first time he openly expressed unhappiness with his opportunities, either.

Per SI.com’s Bill Huber, the wideout was suspended for a game last October after he protested at his lack of targets by skipping a series of practices and meetings.

Although he’s only earning a base salary of $3.4 million this season, obliging a potential trade request would help Green Bay’s brass out in several ways.

Moving Doubs would not only free up a roster spot, but it would also help bring clarity to the team’s pass-catching pecking order and potentially return even more draft capital than the Packers would receive via the NFL’s compensatory pick formula for departing free agents.”

At the moment, Jayden Reed, Doubs, and Matthew Golden are projected to be the starting wide receivers for Green Bay. However, Reed is currently in a boot and it is unknown if he will be ready for Week 1 against the Detroit Lions. Doubs is also dealing with a back injury.

Savion Williams and Dontayvion Wicks will be other wide receivers who are projected to make the roster. Mecole Hardman or Malik Heath is also battling for a roster spot and Christian Watson might be starting the season on injured reserve with a torn ACL. Doubs probably should not request a trade even if he is a jammed wide receiver room.

He is going to be a starter for the Packers in 2025. Even if Green Bay does not give him a long-term deal after the season, Doubs playing elsewhere in 2025 may not make sense for him.
