'Strong link' - What Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have done in training to grow Man United partnership

Ruben Amorim will be hoping his new-look attack at Manchester United gel together well this season.

After a disastrous 15th-placed finish last season, Manchester United have overhauled their attacking department this summer hoping to improve on the 44 league goals scored last season.

A £66m deal for Benjamin Sesko last week means he completes a new front three alongside Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

Mbeumo is already building a partnership with Amad Diallo on United’s right flank, but Amorim will also want to see his three new forwards drum up an exciting connection.

Sesko is well-suited for Mbeumo, with the 22-year-old Slovenian hoping to be on the end of his crosses this season. But a potential partnership with Cunha will also excite fans.

Bryan Mbeumo already working well with Matheus Cunha

During pre-season, Amorim played Mbeumo and Cunha up front together in a two-striker system. That likely won’t be the case anymore with Sesko now in the squad, but the duo did show some exciting potential.

Amorim has explained that Mbeumo and Cunha have settled in well in United’s squad, and the former has now spoken about their blossoming partnership.

"I found it crazy, to be honest." 🤯

Speaking to TNT Sports, Mbeumo said: “Cunha is a really good player, it’s good that we could share some trainings on the pitch together because it’s always important to have good automatisms in the team, and a strong link in front.

“[We’ve been doing] some striker works, some forward works.

“I think we still have some freedom up front, but there are some principles to respect.”

Where Bryan Mbeumo wants Man United to finish in 2025/26

With just days to go until United kickstart their Premier League season against Arsenal, predictions and expectations have come flooding in.

Reports suggest Ineos expect Amorim to finish top six, but it seems pundits are less optimistic. Rio Ferdinand predicts United to finish eighth.

When speaking about his targets at United this season, Mbeumo said: “In my personal thinking, I always want to finish as high as possible. I think we want to try to get back to Europe as soon as possible.

“Of course it’s going to be tough, it’s not going to be easy, we’re going to work a lot together.

“For Manchester United we need to fight for this every year, and that’s what we’re going to try to do.

“It’s a matter of time [until United return to the top of the game]. Of course it’s not going to happen like that easily.”
