Joel Embiid’s knee ailments have sparked a lot of discussion among Philadelphia 76ers fans. Recently, head coach Nick Nurse provided an update on his superstar’s status.
“All the news is positive,” [Nurse said in an appearance with TalkSport Radio](https://talksport.com/basketball/3469133/nick-nurse-joel-embiid-philadelphia-76ers-injury-update-status/). “I know he’s working very, very hard, and I think things look good. Whether he’s ready for training camp or not, I think there’s maybe a lot more decisions than that to make before we get there. But our main thing is that he’s healthy to play and play to his best capabilities, because he’s awesome, no doubt about that.”
It remains to be seen how effective Embiid will be after numerous lower-half injuries. Embiid has missed a good portion of each of the last two seasons due to a meniscus injury, and has suffered with leg and knee injuries since he first entered the league in 2014.
Embiid only appeared in 19 games last season, averaging 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game, all the lowest marks of his career since 2017-18, his second season in the NBA.
The 76ers will need Embiid to be healthy, and at the top of his game next season. The team won just 24 games last year, and dealt with numerous injuries to not just Embiid, but many other key players as well. If Embiid is healthy, and even somewhat resembles his 2022-23 MVP winning-self, then the 76ers should be back in the playoff hunt this upcoming season after a wasted year.
