76ers' Nick Nurse provides update on Joel Embiid injury status

There's a lot of uncertainty heading into the 2025-26 season for head coach Nick Nurse and the Philadelphia 76ers. The team's roster is still getting filled out, with a decision on restricted free agent Quentin Grimes and a large list of players returning from injury.

Philadelphia's depth in the backcourt will be exciting to watch. Second-year guard Jared McCain will be returning from a torn meniscus, Tyrese Maxey is returning to full health after an injury-riddled 2024-25, and No. 3 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, VJ Edgecombe, has a lot of potential at just 20 years old.

However, the 76ers' front-court players have a lot of shaping up to do. After losing power forward Guerschon Yabusele in free agency (signed with the New York Knicks), all eyes are on Joel Embiid as he continues to get healthy after knee surgery in April.

Embiid's knee injuries have been a constant issue for him throughout his career, and it seems that the problem will linger into next season. His status for the 76ers' training camp is uncertain, but head coach Nick Nurse has high hopes for the 2023 MVP.

In an interview with talkSport, Nurse believes that Embiid's progression from knee surgery is looking promising.

"All the news is positive. I know he's working very, very hard, and I think things look good," Nurse said. "Whether he's ready for training camp or not, I think there's maybe a lot more decisions than that to make before we get there. But our main thing is that he's healthy to play and play to his nearest capabilities, because he's awesome, no doubt about that."

The update from Nick Nurse isn't very promising, but it seems that Embiid is expecting a lot more out of himself after playing in just 19 games in 2024-25.
