Former Jaguars draft bust finally finds a new home in the NFC South

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence has had his fair share of ups and downs. Originally, he was named a generational talent after being drafted in 2021, and while he hasn't been bad, he also hasn't quite lived up to those expectations yet, either.

Now, Lawrence is entering boom-or-bust territory. Many of the issues he's faced haven't entirely been his fault, and for the first time, he has the tools necessary to succeed, with a good head coach in Liam Coen, and am arsenal of offensive weapons.

And in a recent press conference, he said it's starting to finally pay off.

"It's starting to feel, starting to feel a lot more comfortable and natural," he said. "I'm not having to think about I'm not having to say, okay, that's my it's my footwork on this play. You know, none of that stuff anymore, obviously. So I feel comfortable with it. Some of the, just mechanical stuff that you've done for years is just the way you hitch, the way you transfer weight, and some of that stuff takes a little longer to train out, but we do such a good job of working in Indy and all the periods that aren't team periods, to where I'm starting to build that muscle memory, where I see it carrying over, but I don't think about it when I'm playing and when I'm in team periods or in a game, because you don't want to be thinking about, what am I doing with my mechanics? And that's you can't play that way. You got enough to think about. So we've done a great job of working on it really, really detailed work and indie and trying to pinpoint the issues in those periods."

It's an encouraging for a quarterback with the talent and potential to be among the league's elite. And analysts believe that, with Coen's tutelage, he can become that elite QB. He's coming off of several underwhelming seasons, but this could finally be the year fans have been waiting for.

And as ESPN's Seth Walder recently noted, it's Lawrence that gives the Jaguars their best shot at a great season.

"Lawrence will record a top-seven QBR season," Walder said. "I still haven't given up on Lawrence, who has never been in a great situation with the full trio of coach, receivers and offensive line. I'm hopeful that could change with the additions of Thomas, Hunter and coach Liam Coen. He could finally reach his potential."
