The Green Bay Packers are confident in their quarterback.
Jordan Love has been a polarizing figure for a while now, and he didn’t necessarily live up to the hype last season.
Even so, Matt LaFleur believes Love can be one of the greats.
Asked about his quarterback, the head coach had some big words to describe him.
“I’d hate to put a ceiling on him because I think he can be one of the elites in this league,” LaFleur told The Athletic.
Love is the type of player who alternates epic plays with head-scratching ones.
There are signs of Aaron Rodgers’ mentorship when he throws sidearm passes or tricks the defense into a free play.
Then, he can make a reckless throw and put the ball in harm’s way on the next play.
Then again, to be fair, he’s also had to deal with tough opponents year in and year out, and his wide receivers have failed to establish themselves as reliable players.
Love has the physical tools to be a star, even if he’s not a true dual-threat quarterback.
The Packers did the right thing by taking things slowly with him and letting him grow and develop behind Rodgers.
But with a big paycheck also comes big demands, and Love will be under a lot of pressure to prove that he belongs among the best in the game.
