Eagles trade idea would send former second-round pick packing very soon

The Philadelphia Eagles have an entirely new pass rush setup ahead of the 2025 season, as losing Josh Sweat in free agency and trading away disappointing offseason addition Bryce Huff has Vic Fangio trying to rebuild his unit on the fly with a collection of youngsters and veterans on one-year deals.

Not only will Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt be expected to fill more important roles, but veterans like Azeez Ojulari, Josh Uche, and Ogbonnia Okoronkwo will be a part of the pass rush rotation. However, reports have suggested that the Eagles would rather lean on the young guys over some of those established veterans.

Howie Roseman may end up flipping one of these players for another draft pick if he is encouraged by the progress some of the younger players have made. Of those three, Ojulari might be the one who can help recoup a more enticing Day 3 pick for Philadelphia in a hypothetical trade scenario.

The Green Bay Packers surprised quite a few around the league when they chose not to spend any of their top picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. If they want to make an impactful addition to this unit, Ojulari might be at the forefront of Brian Gutekunst's mind.

This Packers-Eagles trade could send Azeez Ojulari to Green Bay

Ojulari did record 22 sacks in four seasons with the New York Giants, and he was very productive in the 2024 season despite losing snaps after the arrival of Brian Burns. Ojulari may be in for a similar situation as a result of a deep Eagles defensive line.

The Eagles will eventually be financially handicapped by many of the big extensions on their books, and getting more Day 3 picks could be one way to mitigate the eventual loss of starting-caliber talent. Roseman remains one of the very best drafters in football, so this is a prudent strategy.

As for the Packers, they could land a proven speed rusher who is more than capable of slotting into their pass rush rotation. Ojulari's departure from the Giants was motivated by their depth at the position, not an overall lack of quality from one of their more consistent defensive players.

Ojulari could play a very important role for the Eagles in 2025, especially if Uche and Okoronkwo don't end up fulfilling their top potential. However, if the young players win out, Ojulari may need to start looking for places in Green Bay.
