‘A really good player’ - Bryan Mbeumo showers praise on 26yo Man United star

Manchester United summer signing Bryan Mbeumo has showered praise on teammate and fellow summer arrival Matheus Cunha, with the Brazilian impressing him so far.

The Red Devils signed the 26-year-old in June from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth £62.5 million, and he has been tipped to hit the ground running at the Old Trafford club.

Cunha notched 15 goals and six assists in 33 Premier League appearances last term, and Mbeumo is looking forward to playing with him.

“Cunha is a really good player, it’s good that we could share some training on the pitch together because it’s always important to have good automatisms in the team, and a strong link in front,” the Cameroon international said.

“(We’ve been doing) some striker work, some forward work. I think we still have some freedom up front, but there are some principles to respect.”

Man United signed Mbeumo from Brentford in a £71m deal last month, and head coach Ruben Amorim now has two of the best attackers the Premier League has seen in recent seasons in his team.

The 26-year-old bagged 20 goals and eight assists in 38 league games last term after notching nine goals and seven assists in 25 league appearances in 2023-24.

Mbeumo and Cunha have plenty to prove at one of the biggest clubs on the planet, but they are not under a lot of pressure as they already know all about the art of finding the back of the net in the English top-flight.

Slovenia international striker Benjamin Sesko has also been added to the Red Devils attack, and the former RB Leipzig star will need to show that he has what it takes to succeed in one of the toughest leagues in the world.

The 22-year-old is expected to be a hit, but Amorim has both Cunha and Mbeumo as plan Bs as they can both lead the line if need be, and Man United have no excuses not to be effective in front of goal this term.
