Nottingham Forest agree James McAtee deal as transfer conditions confirmed

Manchester City midfielder James McAtee is close to signing for Nottingham Forest, with an agreement having been reached between the two sides.

McAtee was part of Manchester City’s first-team squad last season, playing 26 games in total, scoring seven goals.

The midfielder has been extensively linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium, with German side Eintracht Frankfurt among the clubs interested. But it seems that Forest have won the race.

The club have agreed a fee of around £30 million with City for the 22-year-old. Our sister title the Manchester Evening News reports that there is a buyback clause and a sell on clause included in the deal.

McAtee came up through the youth ranks with City, making his senior debut in September 2021 in a Carabao Cup win over Wycombe Wanderers. He spent the 2022/23 and 2023/24 season on loan with Sheffield United, helping the Blades to win promotion to the Premier League in his first campaign.

He couldn’t however stop them dropping out of the division the following season.

A move to Forest will see McAtee play Europa League football this season. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were promoted to the competition from the Conference League following UEFA’s decision to demote Crystal Palace amid ownership rules.

Forest have also been linked with a transfer interest in former City and Aston Villa midfielder Danilo and Ipswich Town winger Omari Hutchinson.

Reports suggest that Forest are close to agreeing a fee of £37.5 million fee for Hutchinson after seeing an initial £35 million bid turned down by the Championship side.
