Manchester United have been trying hard to move on from Jadon Sancho this summer transfer window, and while there are a few other high-profile players they have been actively trying to sell this summer, such as Alejandro Garnacho, Sancho is undoubtedly the priority to get rid of.
Sancho did not manage to stick around at Chelsea. He played decently well on loan at Stamford Bridge last season, but Chelsea wisely elected to pay a small fee than rather invest in his future, seeing as how he hasn’t proven he is a difference-maker at the Premier League level.
But what makes Sancho’s case so interesting is the fact that he is a proven difference-maker outside the Premier League. Sancho was a revelation at Borussia Dortmund before his Manchester United move, and when he went back to Dortmund for six months on loan, he helped them reach the Champions League Final against the odds.
Manchester United have found it difficult to find a willing transfer partner for Sancho, who is only just starting to come around on the idea of taking a paycut to facilitate a move, though a reunion with Dortmund under Niko Kovac doesn’t seem to be in the cards.
Manchester United want a permanent solution
There is, however, a different European power interested in taking a gamble on Sancho. According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Jadon Sancho has “opened doors” to a move to AS Roma on a transfer worth 20 million pounds. The deal would be a loan with an obligation to buy with “easy” triggers, per Romano, to become a permanent transfer.
Manchester United don’t want to waste their time bouncing Sancho around on loan, so a permanent solution like this one would make a ton of sense for the Red Devils.
Meanwhile, Roma do like to take fliers on Premier League players, and they’ve found success with cast-offs from the English league, such as Tammy Abraham, who was one of the best strikers in Serie A for the Giallorossi before a devastating injury.
Sancho still wants to play at the highest level of European football, and Roma are headed to the Europa League next season after finishing fifth under Claudio Ranieri. This looks like the most likely way for Sancho to leave Manchester United in 2025.
