The Green Bay Packers will finish the preseason without starting quarterback Jordan Love after he had surgery on his left thumb.
Love sustained the injury during a preseason loss to the New York Jets and tried to practice before deciding on the procedure.
Head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that the surgery went well and said the team plans to take a careful approach with Love’s recovery.
A recent practice video has also offered additional insight into the extent of the injury.
“Here’s a better look at Bucket Hat Jordan Love’s soft cast. Again, return timeline of one week hasn’t changed,” Matt Schneidman of The Athletic wrote on X.

The timing creates another challenge for Green Bay’s offense, which already faces multiple issues heading into the regular season.
The Packers entered the game against the Jets missing key players at wide receiver and tight end, leading to several costly mistakes.
Love is present as the Packers and Indianapolis Colts hold joint practices.
He’ll observe and assist backup quarterbacks Malik Willis, Sean Clifford and Tyler Elgersma as they prepare for the preseason game at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Green Bay continues managing injuries across its roster during training camp. Cornerback Nate Hobbs had minor knee surgery but remains on schedule for Week 1 of the regular season.
In addition, safety Xavier McKinney has been out with a calf problem.
These absences could affect the team’s early rhythm once the season begins. However, LaFleur believes giving his veteran players proper rest now will pay dividends later.
The Packers hope Love will be ready for the season opener, though the team won’t rush him back before he’s fully healed.
