'He helped me': Tijjani Reijnders says he's already made a really good friend at Manchester City

Tijjani Reijnders hasn’t been at Manchester City very long, but he has already made a good friend.

Manchester City signed Tijjani Reijnders in June, landing him from AC Milan in a deal worth around £46million.

Reijnders has already made a significant impact at City, showing a lot of promising signs that he could successfully take over from Kevin De Bruyne.

The Netherlands international has now revealed who has become his best friend at the Etihad Stadium.

Tijjani Reijnders strikes up good friendship with Nathan Ake

Reijnders was interviewed by Stadium Astro ahead of the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

He was asked a number of questions both regarding his football journey and his personal life, and one question related to his best friend at City.

Reijnders revealed that he has struck up a good friendship with fellow Dutchman Nathan Ake.

“In the beginning, I asked Nathan a lot because he’s also Dutch,” said Reijnders.

“So, he helped me any time I had a question or needed help.

So, I think Nathan because I have known him for a longer time now. So, I have to say Nathan.”

How many times Tijjani Reijnders and Nathan Ake have played alongside each other

Reijnders and Ake have played competitively in the same Manchester City side twice so far, against Wydad and Al-Hilal in the Club World Cup.

However, both players have also played alongside one another at international level, taking to the pitch together 15 times for the Netherlands, for an overall total of 17.

Both played alongside each other in every match for the Netherlands at Euro 2024, getting to the semi-finals before being knocked out by England.

It’s always good when a new arrival at a club is able to connect with someone else straight away, which is very much the case here.
