Most top Premier League clubs have been enjoying a great summer transfer window this summer. Apart from Man Utd, even the likes of Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham have done a lot of significant business.

Apart from Man Utd, even the likes of Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham have done a lot of significant business.

Liverpool, so far, have signed the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez so far but don’t seem to be anywhere close to done with their transfer business.

The Reds have now shifted their attention to central defense.

Now, as per The Times, Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign talented Parma defender Giovanni Leoni. The teenager also had interest from the likes of Newcastle United and Manchester United, who made late moves to try and sign him.

Reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Leoni, giving his patented ‘Here We Go’. The journalist has also mentioned that the teenager only wanted a move to the Merseyside club.

The deal that Liverpool have agreed is said to be worth around £30m. For such a young player, that is quite a hefty fee but it is also an indication of how much talent Leoni possesses and what he can bring to the table.

Liverpool’s center-back position is in urgent need of addressing this summer.

The Reds sold Jarrel Quansah to Bayern Leverkusen and that leaves them with just an ageing Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and an injury prone Joe Gomez as options.

Signing someone like Leoni was much needed for the Merseyside club, even if it comes at the cost of Man Utd missing out on a defensive target.

However, the Red Devils have a number of talented central defenders in the squad and this transfer miss shouldn’t hurt them much. Let’s wait and see how the Parma defender fares in the Premier League.
