Bill Belichick is attempting to do what few other football coaches best known for their NFL exploits have attempted and usually with minimal success. Can he win big in college? Can he win somewhat big?
Only that the other coaches that made the move from the pros to college had prior collegiate experience, including serving as head coach.
Not Belichick. He's been a pro guy since day one, until last December when North Carolina hired him to replace Mack Brown.
Naturally, Belichick's move to UNC, after winning six Super Bowls as head man of the New England Patriots, sparked discussions about other pro-to-college coaches attempted. We did the digging, and here is some history of coaches known more for their pro time and success that later went to college:
