Jets Work Out 1 Veteran Quarterback

The New York Jets have run through quite a few quarterbacks in recent years, most recently landing on Justin Fields after deciding to part with Aaron Rodgers following two unsuccessful seasons.

Fields has had a decent training camp, but it never hurts to have more insurance, especially after backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor recently had a procedure on his knee and is out for the rest of the preseason.

The Jets responded by working out veteran C.J. Beathard, via Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.

Beathard is a free agent after spending last season on the Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins’ practice squads.

The 31-year-old entered the NFL in 2017 and has made 13 starts with 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

The Jets also worked out Nathan Peterman, and there has been no word on whether or not they are planning to sign either of them, though it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Beathard join the team in the coming days.

Beathard is the type of experienced veteran who could provide plenty of value and help Fields’ development.

With Taylor out, Adrian Martinez and Brady Cook are next on the depth chart, so it’s clear that the Jets could use another veteran, just in case things don’t work out with Fields or if he misses time.

Hopefully, Taylor gets back soon, but in the meantime, Beathard would be a nice addition.
