Denison, Ia native Brandon Scherff retiring from the NFL

DENISON, Iowa (KTIV) - After 10 seasons in the NFL, a Northwest Iowa native is retiring.

Brandon Scherff, a native of Denison, has announced his retirement from professional football. The former Hawkeye just spent the last three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and according to an Iowa Athletics article, he decided to retire this summer.

While with the Hawkeyes, Scherff received the Outland Trophy in 2014. Also in 2014, he was an All-American, earning first-team honors, was the Big Ten Rimington-Pace Offensive Lineman of the Year, and a semifinalist for the 2014 Rotary Lombardi Award. He started all 26 games as a junior and senior.

In 2015, he was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the NFL Draft’s first round, No. 5 overall. In 2020, Scherff was an NFL all-Pro selection, and during his career, he was a five-time Pro Bowl selection.
